Production

Syngas Energy intends to produce methanol using natural gas as feedstock. The production facility will consist of:

 

 Feed Purification

Natural Gas contains low levels of sulphur compounds which is detrimental to the life of the catalyst in the reformer tubes. The gas should, therefore, undergo a desulfurization process to reduce, the sulphur to levels of less than one part per million.  

 

•  Production of syngas from steam reformer

Reforming is the process which transforms the methane (CH4) in natural gas and the steam (H2O) to Syngas, a mixture of hydrogen (H2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and carbon monoxide (CO). This process is carried out in a reformer furnace which uses natural gas as fuel.

 

•  Syngas compression

The syngas is then cooled and compressed. During this process, water is removed from syngas produced in the reformer.

 

•  Methanol synthesis

During this stage, cooled syngas is converted to crude methanol in presence of catalyst.

 

•  Crude methanol purification

Methanol produced by the converters is crude and contains water and other impurities. Water and the impurities are removed during the purification stage. The purity of methanol produced by purification is 99.85% methanol, minimum.
